Life: Sleepless in Seattle

Sometimes you need to just pack your car and head south to play tourist in someone else’s city. Seattle is a perfect outlet for us to do so. All you need is your passport, a few good friends and your iPod. This past weekend I headed down south with a few of my coworkers. It was a nice little ‘gateway’ for us to just unwind, visit some outlets, talk and have some dinner.

First things first, why is it, every time I head down to the border I feel like we’re going to be interrogated so we sit in line practicing our answers to our own made up questions. “What is the purpose of your trip?”, “How do you guys know each other?”, “Where does everyone live?”. We practiced for a solid six minutes and by the time it was our turn we still messed up. “What is the purpose of your trip?” “ugh we’re going to Bellingham? No the Premium Outlets...” but I digress. Our first stop was at the Seattle Premium Outlets. There wasn’t a whole lot of ‘cheap’ stuff as it felt like over hyped products at regular price with a ‘up to’ 40% sign. The only place that seemed to live up to the outlet feel was Kate Spade, there was a line up as there was a 60-75% off on all items however the lineup was pretty long so we opted out. I walked away with a few fun items: Crabtree & Evelyn Avocado hand therapy lotion, $3.95 long grey tee from the Gap and $6 work out shorts from Under Armour. After 2 hours we headed into Seattle to do some touristy stuff which I am always game for. My friends and I headed to the Great Wheel which I’ve gone on before. This time around my anxiety was heightened because I was with two people who also have a fear of heights and that death trap was swaying back and forth. It was definitely an experience to take in when you’re in Seattle. I noticed also that parking wasn’t as expensive as downtown Vancouver which was shocking but not shocking because we all know how expensive Vancouver is. We also got to check out Seattle Antiques Market which they had a few crates of vinyl which I scored the Stylistics record that has a few of my favourite jams “You make me feel brand new” and “Betcha by golly, wow”. I was over the moon excited and for only $5. Before we headed home we had to stop by the Cheesecake Factory, which seems to be a staple restaurant Vancovuerites seem to go to while in Seattle. We we’re served by Johnny who was really great and kept refilling our bread basket with that brown bread (it’s so bomb). It was nice to sit back and talk about life, work and about our SIMS. Yes, we play SIMS (don’t judge us, we’re a cool bunch). That food coma kicked into high gear as we headed home. By the time we got to the border back into Canada, the crossing seemed to be on one because they seemed to be searching everyone’s car. By the time it was our turn we had all our receipts in order and our passports in check. We obviously told the truth and told him what we purchased and he let us go without the crazy search that everyone was getting. All in all, it was a great day trip, it was nice to just get out of Vancouver and just cruise. Seattle is ALWAYS a good idea.
