On January 12th Miss Jazmine Sullivan will drop her long awaited album Reality Show. I have been waiting forever, fo'eva eva (in my best Andre 3000 voice). Every so often an artist comes out that is a reminder of what R&B use to be like, like back back back in the day the fuzes new sounds of what the 'now' can bring and that right there is Jazmine Sullivan.
She's released a few singles off that album Dumb feat Meek Mill, Mascara and Forever Don't Last.
Dumb is that same ol' tale about your man being out and about and we as female being smart enough and not being the fool any longer. And on that flip side, Mascara is a song about that woman who's always at the gym, whos taking care of herself and having a man pay for everything. "Don't I deserve to get the very best? 'Cause it ain't easy being this fine all the time", definitely a different side to the modern independent woman always doing for herself. And so far, my favourite song, Forever Don't Last....she sings her FACE OFF on this track. It's about a relationship going through the motions about how after it ending that those good times in the beginning were just in the beginning. How relationships often go from "yes lets do this" to "might as well, we've been together" to having the balls to walk away from something so toxic and just looking back like "although we had those good times, we good by ourselves". Gah. I am excited for this album.
Her album is listed on iTunes for pre-order for $9.99.
