I Gotta Basketball Jones.....Rant

11:55 AM - Over coffee this morning it was drawn to my attention that the 2015 NBA All Star Game is next weekend. I remember when I was younger ball was everything. I mean aside from trying to look cute you always got extra points if you knew what the hell was going on in sport especially basketball. I digress, after talking about the All Start game and a little bit of shit talk about the WNBA we started talking about back in the day. Perhaps when I was younger I had all the time in the world to follow basketball but I don’t think that’s it because I still keep up with baseball because it hasn’t failed me.

We started talking about players now verses players back then. And when I started looking at it and some basketball recaps from last night, y’all are forgetting the fundamentals. Like y’all start getting paid crazy amount of money and now y’all don’t have to do work??? And not to name drop but Lebron, YOU ARE BY FAR THE BEST PLAYER IN THE LEAUGE, you have solidified yourself as probably the top 50 to ever play the game (yet you’re not retired) AND YOU HAVE THE NERVE to ask to be taken out of the game because you played too many minutes? Say what now? *deep sigh*. On the flip side, perhaps he’s afraid of getting injured??? But naw, that’s like me going to work and saying “Hey boss, I’ve helped 40 clients, it’s been 4 hours into my shift….Ima take a seat right, actually you know what? Ima call it a day I’ll see you tomorrow”, I would be FIRED SO FAST, and I make about 0.5% if anything of what that dude makes. You would NEVER see Jordan try and pull that shit….that reminds me of the 30 for 30 when Jordan was about to go down for that illegal gambling thing or whatever it was and he took a leave and gave baseball a shot, before the game he would be out there working on his batting, he would play the game then would come back out and working on his batting again after the game. His mental drive was “I’m going to be better than yesterday”. #workethic

It brought me to a photo we were looking at of Shawn Kemp and Gary Payton, two of my favourites. Do you remember back in the day, Kemp, Payton, Sam Perkins, Kendal Gill, Schrempf fro the Sonics? Then you had Drexler, Reggie Miller, Tim Hardaway, Sprewell, Penny and Shaq, Jason Kidd, then you had all them Bulls, Scottie and Jordan, Steve Kerr, BJ Armstrong, Vladi and dem boyz in NYC? Starks, Oakley and MASON…..I use to wait for Mason to get pissed off lol. THAT WAS BALL for me. Back in the day when they had HEART, they would get so heated that they would literally hit their own chest. I WANT THAT SHIT BACK….but just like that good good hip hop/R&B I just sit and reminisce with my friends over coffee. *Le Sigh*
