Any kind of music award show I’m always down for and I normally only watch for the performances. It’s pretty much the hokey pokey b/c “that’s what it’s all about”. This time, I do want to know who wins a few catagories:
1. Record of the Year: this category consists of Iggy, Sia, Sam Smith, Taylor and Meghan Trainor. I’m really hoping Sam Smith wins because this dude is TALENTED! (not that the others aren’t) however in my humble opinion he deserves it. If he doesn’t win I hope TS takes it. She has proven with 1989 that girl can not only sing but she is a chameleon. She has transitioned into pop like she’s been there for a long time. That “Shake it off” is one catchy mf song. Y’all be fronting like you don’t dance to that shiet when it comes on.
2. Album of the Year: This one is a toss up, however I do hope Beyonce wins because homegirl just dropped it on us on instagram like “BOOM THERE YOU GO” drops the mic and has all of us like WTF. In three days she sold 828.773 copies WORLD WIDE and became the fastest selling album in iTunes history. No promotion, no prior announcements no nothing….girllllllll. Other’s in the category are Beck with “Morning Phase”, “X” Ed Sheeran which is one of my favs, “In the Lonely Hour” Sam Smith (which is another bomb dot com album) and “Girl” by Pharrell which was aight.
3. Best New Artist: Honestly, it just better go to Haim or Sam Smith…that’s it, plain and simple.
Now we all know during the taping of the Grammy’s they do award winners already as if they broadcasted everything the Grammy’s would be like 8 hours, ain’t nobody got time for that. Best Traditional pop Vocal Album went to Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga for “Cheek to Cheek”, my dad is thoroughly obsessed with this album. So incredibly happy for Robert Glasper Experiment featuring Lalah Hathaway & Malcom-Jamal Warner for Best Traditional R&B Performance. Best R&B Song went to “Drunk in Love”, so excited for Tim Mosley on that one. Hella disappointed that Jhene Aiko didn’t win for Best Urban Contemporary Album for Sail Out, that album was amazing. Cover to cover every song spoke to me. And yay to Kendrick Lamar for winning Best Rap Performance and Eminem for taking a few home already thus far.
The Grammy’s will be on in a few, the fashion, the performances the winners….who and what are you most excited to see? Tweet me @1982Made #soundoff
